Remarks

Overview

A Form Type is an internal object created automatically during training of a Document Type. Each Form Type represents a specific example or version of a document, such as a particular revision, layout, or language variant.

  • Form Types are not created or managed directly by designers.
  • They are generated when using training commands like Train As or Train From on a Batch Folder.
  • Each Form Type contains a set of Page Types that correspond to the pages of the trained sample.

Lifecycle and Usage

  • Form Types are used by the classification engine to match incoming documents to known examples, improving accuracy for structured and semi-structured documents.
  • When training data is purged (using the Purge Training command), all associated Form Types are removed.
  • The set of Form Types for a Document Type reflects the diversity of real-world document samples provided during training.

Best Practices

  • Provide representative samples for each significant variation of a document to ensure robust classification.
  • Retrain as needed when new versions or layouts are encountered in production.

For more information, see the documentation for Document Type, Page Type, and training commands.
