Scanner Profile

Node Grooper.Capture

Defines a connection to a capture device and the settings that control how the device operates during scanning.

Remarks

Overview

A Scanner Profile specifies the configuration for a particular capture device (such as a document scanner) within Grooper. It determines which device is used, how pages are fed and oriented, and what image processing (if any) is applied to scanned images.

Scanner Profiles are essential for environments where multiple scanners or device types are used, or where device-specific settings must be managed and reused.

Configuration

The main properties to configure include:

  • 'Device': Selects the Capture Device to be used for image acquisition.
  • 'Feed Orientation': Controls the direction and rotation in which documents are fed and scanned.
  • 'IP Profile': Optionally applies a specific IP Profile for scanner-specific image cleanup.
  • 'Max Idle Time': Sets the maximum time the scanner can remain idle between page loads.
  • 'Scan Once': Configures whether the scanner should prompt for a single scan or allow continuous scanning.

Each property can be adjusted to match the requirements of the scanning hardware and the needs of the capture process.

Usage in Grooper

  • Design and Testing:
Scanner Profiles are created and edited using the Scan View control, typically within the Review activity.
To design or test a profile, select a Batch Process Step configured with a Review activity that includes a Scan View, and use the Activity Tester tab.

  • Runtime Scanning:
When a Scan View is launched, the user selects a Scanner Profile to determine which device and settings are used for the session.
The selected profile governs all device interactions, page orientation, and any device-specific image processing.

  • Device-Specific Image Processing:
If certain scanners require unique image cleanup, attach an IP Profile directly to the Scanner Profile.
This ensures that only images from that device receive the specified processing, while general image cleanup should be configured at the scan module level.

Best Practices

  • Create separate Scanner Profiles for each device or device type in use.
  • Use descriptive names to clarify the intended device and configuration.
  • Attach IP Profiles to Scanner Profiles only when device-specific processing is required.
  • Test profiles using the Activity Tester to ensure correct operation before deploying to production.
