Overview

A Local Resources Folder is a special folder created as a child of a Content Type to store resources that are tightly coupled to that type. This makes the Content Type more self-contained, portable, and easier to manage, as all supporting resources are grouped together.

Purpose and Usage

• Use a Local Resources Folder to store resources such as Lexicons, Data Rules, Extractor Nodes, Resource Files, OCR Profiles, and IP Profiles that are only relevant to a single Content Type or a small group of types.
• Resources placed here are inherited by descendant Content Types, allowing for shared configuration at the appropriate level in the hierarchy.
• Storing resources locally reduces clutter in the Project and makes it easier to move or export a Content Type with all its dependencies.

Best Practices

• If a resource is used only by a single Document Type, place it in that type's Local Resources Folder.
• If a resource is shared by multiple types, place it in the Local Resources Folder of a common ancestor, such as a Content Category or the Content Model.
• Use Project-level resources only for items that are truly global or shared across many unrelated types.

Common Resource Examples

• Extractor Nodes for custom extraction or classification logic.
• Lexicons for value extraction or drop-down lists in Data Fields.
• Data Rules for validation or transformation of Data Elements.
• Resource Files (such as CSS) for customizing the appearance of data in a Data Model.
• OCR Profiles and IP Profiles for document processing.

Inheritance and Portability

Resources in a Local Resources Folder are automatically available to the Content Type and all its descendants. This supports inheritance of configuration and enables modular, reusable design.

When exporting or moving a Content Type, its Local Resources Folder and all contained resources are included, ensuring the type remains functional and self-contained.
