Control Sheet

Node Grooper.Capture

Represents a special page used to control and automate aspects of the document scanning process.

Remarks

Overview

The Control Sheet class enables dynamic control over batch scanning workflows by introducing special pages that can be inserted into a document stream. These pages are detected and interpreted by Grooper to trigger actions such as document separation, classification, or on-the-fly adjustment of image processing and color format settings.

  • Control sheets are typically printed and placed between documents or at key points in a batch.
  • When scanned, they are automatically recognized and their encoded instructions are applied to the scanning session.
  • Common use cases include separating documents, assigning content types, changing image processing profiles, or toggling color detection.

Configuration and Usage

  • Configure properties such as 'Create Folder', 'Folder Level', and 'Content Type' to control document separation and classification.
  • Use 'Feed Orientation', 'Detect Color', 'Default Pixel Format', and related properties to dynamically adjust scanner or image processing settings.
  • The 'Entry Lines' property allows you to add custom, handwritten fields to the control sheet for operator input.
  • Control sheets can be generated and printed directly from Grooper, ensuring accurate encoding and layout.

Features

  • Document Separation and Classification:
Automatically create new Batch Folders and assign Content Types at the point where a control sheet is detected.
  • Dynamic Image Processing:
Change image processing profiles, color detection, threshold, brightness, and contrast settings mid-batch.
  • Operator Input:
Add labeled lines for handwritten notes or metadata entry, which can be captured and processed downstream.
  • Single-Page Control:
Use the 'Single Page Only' property to limit the effect of a control sheet to the next scanned page.
  • Automated Cleanup:
Configure whether control sheets are deleted after processing, either individually or globally via Separation Profile settings.

Best Practices

  • Design control sheets with clear, unique markings to ensure reliable detection.
  • Use control sheets to minimize manual intervention and standardize batch processing.
  • Test control sheet recognition and property effects in a controlled environment before deploying to production.
  • Use the 'Delete Control Sheet' property to keep batches free of unnecessary pages after processing.
