CMIS Connection

Node Grooper.CMIS

Defines a connection to an external content storage platform using the CMIS standard.

Remarks

The CMIS Connection class enables Grooper to interact with a wide range of external content management systems and storage platforms that support the CMIS (Content Management Interoperability Services) standard. By configuring a CMIS Connection, users can standardize access to document content and metadata across heterogeneous systems, such as FTP directories, Microsoft SharePoint sites, Exchange servers, and more.

A CMIS Connection acts as a gateway, exposing one or more logical repositories where documents are stored. Each repository within a CMIS Connection must be imported into Grooper as a CMIS Repository before it can be used for import or export operations. The import process creates a link to the external repository, allowing Grooper to interact with its contents without duplicating data.

Typical Workflow

  1. Create a CMIS Connection:

    • Navigate to the Infrastructure folder in the Tree View.
    • Expand the Infrastructure folder.
    • Right-click the CMIS Connections folder, hover over Add, and select CMIS Connection.
    • Name the connection and configure its settings, including the connection type and credentials.
    • Save the connection.
  2. Import a Repository:

    • Select the desired CMIS Connection.
    • Use the List Repositories and Import Repository commands to link a logical repository from the external system.
    • The imported repository becomes available as a CMIS Repository object in Grooper.
  3. Configure Import/Export Definitions:

Key Concepts

  • CMIS Standard:
The CMIS Connection leverages the OASIS CMIS standard to provide a unified interface for document management, regardless of the underlying storage platform.

  • Repositories:
Each CMIS Connection can expose multiple repositories. Repositories must be imported individually to be used within Grooper.

  • Configuration:
The connection type and settings determine how Grooper authenticates and communicates with the external system. Proper configuration is essential for successful integration.

  • No Data Duplication:
Importing a repository does not copy its contents into Grooper. Instead, it creates a reference, enabling live interaction with the external system.

Best Practices

  • Ensure that the connection settings are accurate and tested before importing repositories.
  • Use descriptive names for connections and repositories to clarify their purpose.
  • Regularly review and update connection settings to maintain secure and reliable access.
  • Refer to the Grooper documentation for detailed instructions on configuring specific connection types and troubleshooting common issues.

For more information about the CMIS standard, see the OASIS CMIS Technical Committee.
