Spawn Batch

Code Activity Grooper.Activities

Creates a new batch using a filtered set of folders from the current batch.

Remarks

The Spawn Batch activity allows you to split a batch into one or more new batches by selecting a subset of folders (typically level 1 folders) from the current batch. You can filter which folders are included using a variety of criteria, such as MIME type, content type, flag status, or custom logic. The selected folders can be copied or moved to the new batch, and the new batch can be launched into a Batch Process at a specified step.

How It Works

  • The 'Processing Level' property determines which level of folders in the batch hierarchy are considered for spawning.
  • Filtering options allow you to select folders based on MIME type, content type, flag status, or other criteria.
  • You can choose to copy or move folders, or simply delete them from the source batch.
  • The new batch can be named using a configurable prefix and suffix, and you can control zero-padding for numbered suffixes.
  • Optionally, batch-level index fields can be copied to the new batch.
  • The new batch can be launched into a Batch Process at a specified step, and you can choose whether to start it paused.
  • If no folders match the filter, no batch is created.

Configuration Guidance

  • Use filtering to select only the folders you want to spawn into a new batch.
  • Adjust naming options to ensure new batches are uniquely and meaningfully named.
  • Use the 'Maximum Batch Size' property to split large batches into smaller ones.
  • If you want to preserve the original batch, use the copy action; to move folders, use the move action.
  • Review the 'Source Batch Disposition' property to control what happens to the original batch after spawning.
