ESP Auto Separation

ESP Separator Grooper.Capture

Performs document separation using ESP™ automatic separation, combining page-level classification with flexible, rules-driven separation logic.

Remarks

Overview

The ESP Auto Separator class automates document separation by first classifying each Batch Page using the configured Content Model and its classification method, then applying separation logic to identify document boundaries. This approach leverages both lexical classification and rule-based logic to achieve high accuracy in diverse document sets.

Purpose and Role

  • Page Classification:
Each page is classified using the method defined on the selected Content Model or Content Category, allowing for precise document type identification.
  • Separation Logic:
Document boundaries are determined by the 'Separation' settings on each Document Type, as well as any configured attachment rules and options.
  • Attachment Handling:
Supports merging of attachments (such as cover sheets or supplemental pages) with their host documents using configurable rules.
  • File Boundary Enforcement:
Optionally prevents documents from spanning original file boundaries, ensuring logical document integrity when splitting multi-page files.

Usage Scenarios

  • Mixed Document Batches:
Automatically separate and classify batches containing multiple document types, even when document order and length vary.
  • Attachment Merging:
Use attachment rules to merge related pages (e.g., cover sheets, addenda) with their host documents.
  • File-Safe Separation:
Enforce original file boundaries to prevent documents from spanning across imported files, especially after splitting multi-page PDFs or TIFFs.

Best Practices

  • Configure the 'Scope' property to reference the correct Content Model or Content Category for your document set.
  • Define attachment rules as needed to handle supplemental or related pages.
  • Enable 'Respect Original Page Numbers' if your workflow involves splitting multi-page files and you want to prevent cross-file separation.
  • Test classification and separation logic on representative batches to ensure correct results.
