Brightness Contrast

The 'Brightness' property controls the overall lightness of the image when using a traditional curve-based adjustment (i.e., when 'Curve Shape' is not set to 'Linear').

• Range: -100 (darkest) to 100 (lightest).
• Positive values brighten the image; negative values darken it.
• Only used when 'Curve Shape' is not set to 'Linear'.

Examples

• To slightly brighten an image, set this property to 10.
• To darken an image, set this property to -20.

> Tip: For most images, moderate values (e.g., -20 to 20) are sufficient.

The 'Contrast' property controls the difference between the lightest and darkest areas of the image when using a traditional curve-based adjustment (i.e., when 'Curve Shape' is not set to 'Linear').

• Range: -100 (lowest contrast) to 100 (highest contrast).
• Positive values increase contrast; negative values decrease it.
• Only used when 'Curve Shape' is not set to 'Linear'.

Examples

• To increase contrast, set this property to 15.
• To reduce contrast, set this property to -10.

> Tip: Higher values can make details stand out, but may also exaggerate noise.

The 'Brightness' property acts as a multiplier for image brightness when 'Curve Shape' is set to 'Linear'.

• Range: 0% (completely black) to 500% (very bright). 100% leaves brightness unchanged.
• Values below 100% darken the image; values above 100% brighten it.
• Only used when 'Curve Shape' is set to 'Linear'.

Examples

• To double the brightness, set this property to 2.0.
• To reduce brightness by half, set this property to 0.5.

> Tip: Useful for consistent, proportional adjustments across all pixel values.

The 'Contrast' property acts as a multiplier for image contrast when 'Curve Shape' is set to 'Linear'.

• Range: 0% (completely gray) to 500% (very high contrast). 100% leaves contrast unchanged.
• Values below 100% reduce contrast; values above 100% increase it.
• Only used when 'Curve Shape' is set to 'Linear'.

Examples

• To increase contrast by 50%, set this property to 1.5.
• To reduce contrast by half, set this property to 0.5.

> Tip: Use with care: extreme values may cause loss of detail.

The 'Curve Shape' property determines how pixel values are remapped when adjusting brightness and contrast. The selected curve type affects the look and feel of the adjustment and which properties are used.

• Use 'ThreePoint', 'FivePoint', or 'SevenPoint' for traditional, non-linear adjustments using the 'Brightness' and 'Contrast' properties.
• Use 'Linear' for direct, proportional adjustments using the 'Brightness' and 'Contrast' multipliers.

> Tip: For most scanned documents, 'FivePoint' or 'Linear' are recommended.

The 'Command Type Name' property shows the user-friendly name of the IP Command as it appears in the Grooper UI. This helps users identify which command is being configured or executed, especially when working with IP Profiles containing multiple commands.

This property is read-only and is automatically set based on the command's type.

The 'Supported Pixel Formats' property lists the image pixel formats that the IP Command can process. If an image does not match one of these formats, the command will be skipped for that image.

• By default, all pixel formats are supported unless a derived command restricts this list.
• Example formats include Pixel8bppGrayscale, Pixel24bppBgr, and Pixel1bppIndexed.

Use this property to verify compatibility when building IP Profiles or troubleshooting why a command did not execute.
