Invert

IP Command Grooper.IP

Inverts the pixel values of negated images, converting white features on a black background to black features on a white background.

Remarks

The Invert command is used to correct images that are "negated"—that is, images where the content or features are white and the background is black. This is common in microfilm, microfiche, or certain scanned documents. Applying Invert will reverse the pixel values, producing a standard black-on-white image suitable for further processing or display.

  • The command can be configured to only invert images that meet a minimum threshold of darkness, preventing unnecessary inversion of already-correct images.
  • The amount of inversion can be controlled, allowing for partial or full inversion effects.
  • Optionally, a binarization step can be applied before analysis to ensure consistent results on grayscale or color images.

Supported Pixel Formats

The Invert command supports all common pixel formats, including 1-bit, 8-bit grayscale, 16-bit grayscale, 24-bit RGB, and 32-bit ARGB images.

Diagnostics

When diagnostic mode is enabled, Invert can generate diagnostic images showing the result of binarization (if used) and the effect of inversion. These diagnostics are useful for tuning the 'Threshold' and 'Binarization' settings.

Usage Example

To automatically invert only images that are mostly black, set 'Threshold' to 0.7 (70%). To always invert, set 'Threshold' to 0.
