Auto Border Invert

Border Detect Grooper.IP

Detects dark borders around the edge of an image and inverts or fills the area occupied by the border.

Remarks

The Auto Border Invert command is designed to automatically detect dark (typically black) borders along the edges of scanned or photographed documents, and then either invert or fill those border regions. This is especially useful for cleaning up images where the border is not a uniform solid color, or where partial borders and edge artifacts are present.

Auto Border Invert can be configured to:

  • Invert the detected border region, making dark borders light and vice versa.
  • Fill the border region with a solid color (typically white) to remove the border entirely.
  • Apply a combination of inversion and filling to different sides of the image.

The command also provides advanced options for preprocessing, artifact cleanup, and fine-tuning the detection and removal of border and corner artifacts.

How It Works

  • Detects the presence and extent of dark borders on each side of the image.
  • Depending on the selected operation, inverts or fills the detected border regions.
  • Optionally cleans up small artifacts in the corners and along the edges, and fills small white regions inside inverted areas to ensure a solid result.

Configuration

  • Use the 'Operation' property to select the desired border removal method.
  • Adjust 'Maximum Border Inset' and 'Border Region Size' to control the detection sensitivity and region size.
  • Use 'Binarization' to control how the image is thresholded for border detection and artifact cleanup.
  • Enable or disable partial border processing with 'Allow Partial'.
  • Fine-tune artifact cleanup using 'Maximum Fill Weight', 'Corner Artifact Limit', and 'Edge Cleanup Radius'.

Supported Pixel Formats

Only basic pixel formats are supported. The command will automatically convert images to a supported format as needed.

Diagnostics

When diagnostic mode is enabled, Auto Border Invert generates log entries and diagnostic images, including:

  • "Filled": Shows the result of character/white blob filling.
  • "Dropout Mask": Visualizes the regions where corner and edge artifacts were removed. These diagnostics are essential for tuning configuration and validating results.

> Tip: Use diagnostic output to review how the command is interpreting your images and to ensure that > legitimate content is not being inadvertently altered or removed.
