Auto Border Crop

Border Detect Grooper.IP

Detects and removes black borders and edge artifacts from images.

Remarks

The Auto Border Crop command is designed to automatically detect solid black borders and other edge artifacts commonly produced by document scanners. It crops the image to remove these unwanted borders and can optionally clean up smaller artifacts such as streaks and specks along the edges.

This command is typically used as part of a preprocessing pipeline to improve the quality of scanned documents before further processing, such as OCR or data extraction. By removing extraneous borders and edge noise, it helps ensure that downstream processes operate on clean, content-focused images.

The quick brown fox jumped over the log.

How It Works

  • Detects the largest rectangular region in the image that does not contain a solid black border.
  • Crops the image to this region, removing the detected border.
  • Optionally fills or removes small artifacts remaining near the edges using the 'Fill Border' and 'Border Fill Settings' properties.

Configuration

  • Use the 'Fill Border' property to enable or disable additional edge cleanup after cropping.
  • Fine-tune the behavior of edge cleanup using the 'Border Fill Settings' property, which exposes advanced options for controlling how and where edge artifacts are removed.

Supported Pixel Formats

All pixel formats are supported. The command will automatically handle conversion as needed.

Diagnostics

When diagnostic mode is enabled, Auto Border Crop generates log entries and diagnostic images that visualize the detected border, cropped region, and the results of border filling. These diagnostics are useful for tuning configuration and validating results.

> Tip: Use diagnostic output to review how the command is interpreting your images and to ensure that > legitimate content is not being inadvertently cropped or removed.
