Sticky Note Detection

IP Command Grooper.IP

Detects color sticky notes in scanned images, optionally flagging pages where sticky notes are found.

Remarks

The Sticky Note Detection command identifies color sticky notes attached to document pages. This is useful for scan operators and quality control, allowing them to flag or review pages with sticky notes before batch completion.

The command is designed to detect color sticky notes on non-color (white or grayscale) document backgrounds. It will not work reliably on documents with colored backgrounds or where sticky notes are similar in color to the page.

How Sticky Note Detection Works

  1. The image is scaled to the configured processing resolution.
  2. Color dropout and binarization isolate color regions (potential sticky notes).
  3. Morphological operations and filtering remove noise and small objects.
  4. Edge and line detection identify rectangular shapes matching sticky note size and color criteria.
  5. Detected sticky notes are outlined and optionally used to flag the page.

Supported Pixel Formats

  • Only supports 24-bit color images (Pixel24bppBgr).

Diagnostics

When run in diagnostic mode, Sticky Note Detection generates:

  • Dropout: Shows color elements isolated from the background.
  • Candidates: Shows potential sticky note regions after filtering.
  • Edges / Raw Lines / Detected Lines: Visualizes edge and line detection steps.
  • Sticky Notes: The original image with detected sticky notes outlined.
  • Log Messages: Details about detected lines, rectangles, and sticky notes.

Classification Features

  • Detected sticky notes are recorded as rectangle annotations.
  • Pages can be flagged for review if sticky notes are found.

Practical Guidance

  • Use on color scans of documents with white or light backgrounds.
  • Tune color and size thresholds to match the sticky notes used in your environment.
  • Review diagnostic images to ensure only sticky notes are detected and not other colored elements.
  • Enable page flagging to support operator review or exception handling.
