Data Element - Remove Overrides

Data Element Command Grooper.Core

Removes property overrides from a Data Element for a single property or for all properties.

Remarks

The Remove Overrides command is used to clear property overrides that have been applied to a Data Element for a specific Content Type or any of its descendants. Property overrides allow you to customize the behavior, appearance, or extraction logic of inherited data elements for specialized document types. Over time, you may need to remove these overrides to revert to the inherited configuration or to clean up unnecessary customizations.

When executed, this command can remove overrides for a single property—such as 'Visible', 'Required', or 'Display Name'—or for all properties on the selected Data Element. If no property is specified, all overrides for the element are cleared.

When to Use

  • To revert a Data Element to its inherited configuration by removing custom property values.
  • To clean up overrides that are no longer needed after changes to parent Content Types or Data Models.
  • To resolve conflicts or inconsistencies caused by redundant or outdated overrides.

How It Works

  • Select the Data Element you wish to modify.
  • Choose the property to clear using the 'Property Name' property, or leave it blank to remove all overrides.
  • Execute the command to apply the changes. The affected Content Type and all descendants will have the specified overrides removed.

> Note: This command is only enabled for Data Elements that are not Data Models. Overrides on Data Models must be managed at the Content Type level.

Removing overrides helps maintain a clean and maintainable configuration, ensuring that only meaningful customizations are retained. For more information about property overrides and their role in inheritance, see the documentation for "Content Type - Overrides".
