Content Link - Remove Link

Content Link Command Grooper.Core

Removes the link from its owning Batch Folder.

Remarks

The Remove Link command is used to detach a Content Link from its associated external content, such as a file, document, or repository object. This operation is essential for managing the lifecycle of linked content in Grooper, especially when documents are deleted, moved, or no longer need to reference external storage.

When to Use

  • Use this command when you want to permanently remove the association between a Batch Folder and its external content.
  • It is commonly used during cleanup, archival, or when preparing to re-import or replace content.
  • Removing a link does not delete the external content itself, but only the reference within Grooper.

How It Works

  • When executed, the command removes the selected Content Link from the parent Batch Folder.
  • If the link references a "sparse" document (where only a link is stored and content is loaded on demand), you can optionally load and import the content into Grooper before removing the link by enabling the 'Load If Sparse' property.
  • This ensures that the document remains accessible in Grooper even after the external reference is removed.

Usage Guidance

  • The command is available from the context menu or property grid for Content Link objects.
  • Review the 'Load If Sparse' setting to determine whether to preserve the content in Grooper before unlinking.
  • After removal, the Batch Folder will no longer reference the external content, and any associated metadata or properties will be cleared.

> Tip: Use this command to manage the transition from linked (external) to embedded (internal) content, or to clean up obsolete or broken links in your batch structure.
